FUN WAS HAD BY ALL

27-May-08

The Reunion was a huge success…People who didn’t know one another well, connected and made new friendships, people who had been the closest friends, reconnected, there were lots of laughs and one resounding comment – we all look the same – but are much wiser.

Thank You Thank You Thank You for making it so fun and a weekend to cherish and remember for years to come.

We plan to post pictures here along with the Yearbook on a password protected page.  A few people have some issues with having their image available and searchable so please email your best pictures to me at mimi.kantor@gmail.com or upload them to a private flickr account and send me the info for it or email them to reuben.kantor@comcast.net.  Many people will be sending in their bios over the next couple of weeks so the Yearbook will not be available for a little while (although it looks stunning right now).  I’ll be posting an electronic form of the bio online this week to make it easier to fill out.

IMPORTANT – Reunion Venue Change

15-May-08

Shalom Kulam!

T minus 9 days and counting until the 87-88 Year Course Reunion. We have great plans in place to share a memorable night together to reminisce, catch up on 20 years and have big fun in the big city!

New venue | We recently gauged the response of those who have bought tickets to both the dinner and the after party and decided to make a venue change. Loft 11 was meant to accommodate a huge crowd for the after-party. We did not get the kind of interest or commitment from the masses that we had been hoping to see happen to justify that space.

Your ticket now buys more | Given the circumstances, and hoping to keep costs to a minimum, we have made an exciting venue and ticket benefit change. We expect the funds allocated to be put to good now (and the reunion committee has floated the idea of committing any leftover funds to a one-time year course scholarship in memory of our one deceased friend – Steve Ochs). Ticket prices will now cover a full and tasty dinner, drinks, an after-party, and a brunch with a slightly different scenario.

May 20, 2008 Deadline | If you plan to attend all of the Reunion weekend activities, please buy your ticket online no later than Tuesday May 20, 2008, or be prepared to pay $150 in cash on the night of the Reunion. Either way, PLEASE let us know that you are attending by May 20, 2008. We must have a head count of those attending by then for planning purposes.

Memorobilia | Anyone still have clothing marked for kibbutz laundry? Please dig into your closets and pull out all those great Year Course goodies, such as t-shirts, shuk pants, kibbutz work gloves, etc. and bring them to the main event!

AGENDA | Your $150 ticket purchase will cover the following:

Reunion Dinner on Saturday night | 6:30pm-9:00pm – Ulysses

  • There will be a big group of us who leave at the same time from the Tudor Hotel lobby so meet us there at about 5:30pm. We plan to leave at 5:45pm to take the subway. Please feel free to grab a taxi on your own or use HopStop to find your way there by Subway.
  • Ulysses, A Folk House, 95 Pearl Street @ Stone Street, 212-482-0400Google Map of the Location
  • Ulysses is a sprawling pub and fun space in the financial district. This onetime banquet room is equipped with a profusion of County Clare sandstone, wooden ceiling beams, and a 130-foot bar. There’s also a cafeteria-style carvery, raw bar, and outside seating.
  • Open Bar all night (we will provide bracelets when you arrive at Ulysses)
  • Fantastic Family Style Dinner from 6:30pm-9:00pm – (not Kosher – there wasn’t enough interest or necessity but we will happily accommodate anyone who lets us know of dietary needs in advance)
  • Band cover charge (Ulysses agreed to book the band we had originally hired)
  • Incredible slide show

The After-party has been simplified:

After-Party | 9:00pm with band starting at 10:00pm – Ulysses

  • Ulysses will charge a discounted $5 cover charge to anyone who says: “I’m here for the Reunion
  • Cash Bar – there is no open bar
  • Anyone is welcome to come to join us for the after-party – Please forward the After-Party Evite or add email addresses directly to it.

Hospitality Suite at the Tudor Hotel | Open all weekend

Tudor Hotel at the United Nations
304 East 42nd Street
New York, NY 10017

  • Saturday and Sunday Ronit (Vogel) Tarshis and Emily Blumenthal have adjoining rooms and are hostessing our hospitality suite
  • Beverages and munchies are available

Sunday Brunch | 10:00am–12:00pm at the Tudor Hospitality Suite Rooms

  • Bagels, Cream Cheese, Coffee, OJ and good times
  • Possible park outing in the afternoon

Yearbook

  • We will have disposable cameras available to catch candid shots at the party and brunch
  • Send digital photos from the reunion to ycphoto8788@aol.com after the event
  • We will send a PDF of the Yearbook out after the event

* * *

*NOTE: For those of you who have said they can only come by on Sunday, Young Judaea has graciously offered to cover that additional cost.

As always, please contact me, mimi.kantor@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns.

See you soon!!!

Yearbook Bios STILL needed

13-Apr-08

Hi all,

At the end of this email is a list of the bios I have received. If you sent me a bio and your name isn’t here, please resend, as I may have misplaced it. If you haven’t sent me anything, we’d really love to have something from you.

A few people have told me that they aren’t sure they want to send anything because they don’t have anything major or significant to report about their lives.

I think I can speak for nearly every Year Courser when I says that we really just want to know where everyone is, what they are up to, and how they are doing. So please send us something. The bio form is available here, on the reunion website.

Thanks everyone. Send bios to me.

Reuben

p.s. If the the rumor mill hasn’t quite reached you yet, allow me to finish the deal. Yes, it’s true, that Mimi Gaber and I are engaged to be married this August. We re-met working on the reunion committee, and the rest, we think, is history. So if you are still on the fence about the reunion, and need an added motivation, you just never know who you’ll reconnect with.

p.p.s. Remember that ticket prices will go up this week. If you have said you are coming and have not bought tickets yet, please buy them soon so that you won’t end up paying the higher ticket price.

Ticket Price Raise Deadline Extended

Extra! Extra!…The deadline for raising the price on the tickets has been extended to April 15th. With so many people working extra hard to try and make it, we couldn’t possibly raise the prices now. Please purchase them soon!

Cheers!

The Committee for a Better Reunion!

Reunited and it Feels so Good!

26-Mar-08

Shalom Chevre! (from your friend Emily Blumenthal):

Excitement’s building about our plans to get together over Memorial Day weekend in NYC. Don’t miss out; we want to see you! If you haven’t already, visit the Reunion Website Mimi Gaber put together (thanks Mimi!) to sign up and see who’s already committed to be at the reunion, and/or at least catch up on your long, lost friends at (or maybe even find true love after all these years – that’s right, we have at least one Year Course reunion couple heading to the chuppah).

We’ll be having a first class party on, Saturday night, May 24th, with great food, drinks, live music, and wonderful company at the hip, cool, funky Loft 11 space. Then Sunday, we’ll be chilling in Central Park if the weather shines for us.

And no more Beit Riklis accommodations for this crowd. For out-of-towners we’ve got a deal on loverly NYC hotel rooms at the
centrally located, Tudor Hotel at the United Nations, 304 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017, p: 212.986.8800. We’ll have a hospitality suite there too. Book a room by April 25 to guarantee a discounted group rate.

Also, take a look at our Google Group that Gabe Most established (thanks Gabe!).

At a minimum, give us an update on you! Even if you can’t join us over Memorial Day weekend in NYC, please complete a Reunion Bio Template, and send it our way or to reuben.kantor@comcast.net who’s compiling our yearbook. Also, please send any great recent and Year Course photos to ycphoto8788@aol.com so you can join us in spirit. Sure, we told you the deadline was March 1, but we’re on Judaean time, so get it in as soon as possible (no later than May 1 - remember – this is all volunteer time). Check out our Year Course Memories page for more details of what’s being planned, and how to send it.

And despite our extensive investigative skills, we’re still trying to track down some folks. Please let us know if you have contact information for these people (some are from the other side of the pond) so we can invite them to join us.

We are on the lookout for:
Jeff Dillon, Dalit Dishon, Daphna Doron, Julia Feldman, Abigail Fields, Deborah Gewirtz, Joel Gilbert, Doron Golan, Karen Goldman, Michael Goldstein, Daniel Goldstone, Steven Groden, Benjamin Isaacs, Rebecca Kaplan, Ann Kaye, Frank Kirschbaum, Craig Kolman, Laurie Marco, Talia Margalit, Kenny Markowitz, Rebecca Passman, Elissa Purcell, Rebecca Rosen, David Schwartz, Liisa Shapiro, Daphna Sherbow, Darryl Stern, Liselle Terret

Hurry, times a wasting and ticket prices go up on April 1st for our fabulous reunion party!

T – minus two months and counting! See you in New York, New York!

Planning Update

21-Mar-08

Recently you all have been contacted (or will be) by various members of the Planning Committee. Please take a moment to let them or Mimi [mimi.gaber@gmail.com] know whether you will or will not be able to make it to the Reunion. We are heading into the home stretch here and will need to know numbers and have ticket purchase commitments very soon. If we don’t have a certain number of committed attendees in the next few weeks, we may have to cancel the event so buy your tickets and encourage your friends to buy theirs as well. In the meanwhile, if you want to see other Young Judaea friends that night (or just attend this part of the evening yourself), please feel free to invite them to the “After-Party” via the Evite.

We are also missing the following individuals (some are from FZY or are Madrichim) so if you know anything about them, please let us know:

Jeff Dillon, Dalit Dishon, Daphna Doron, Julia Feldman, Abigail Fields, Beth Friedman, Deborah Gewirtz, Joel Gilbert, Doron Golan, Karen Goldman, Michael Goldstein, Daniel Goldstone, Steven Groden, Benjamin Isaacs, Rebecca Kaplan, Ann Kaye, Frank Kirschbaum, Craig Kolman, Laurie Marco, Talia Margalit, Kenny Markowitz, Rebecca Passman, Elissa Purcell, Rebecca Rosen, Melissa Rubenstein, Gillian Sank, David Schwartz, Lisa Shapiro, Daphna Sherbow, Darryl Stern, Liselle Terret

YC 87-88 [ Yearbook | Photomontage ]

Reuben and Rachel request that you submit your information by: March 1, 2008

Ticket Clarifications

12-Feb-08

We have three clarifications for you about tickets.

  • Significant others are of course invited to attend with you.  It will be completely fun to meet them.  Tickets are $150/person not per couple though.
  • There was a slight typo in the Dinner/After-Party ticket price increase.  If purchased on or after April 1, 2008 the price goes up to $180 not $160.  We need to have some firm numbers by then which is why the major price increase.
  • We have had some inquiries about whether you can just attend the After-Party only if you attended our Year Course.  The answer is Yes, of course.  However there will be some fun things planned for the private time prior to the After-Party that you may miss.  We will be happy to see you at 6pm or 8:30pm though if that’s how you prefer to handle the evening’s fun.

Thanks!
